Situation

Alright then. i have a very odd situation that is going on with my HTPC build that i am expirementing with. currently two operating systems are installed. Windows XP pro and windows vista Ultimate. My vista ultimate however will not go online for some odd reason. i plug in a cable and it just sits there and says that a cable is still unplugged. has any one ever come across such a thing before with vista????
any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

i had similar prob, i actually keep having it...

it happened on my 6 year old comp too, but for that, one day, when i reinstalled os, it fixed...

but on my new pc, from a day, on board nic stopped working... it was working for the first few days and i can never get it to work again no matter what i do (change os to xp, flush out bios mem and reset it, update bios, whatever...), and i think its not coz of os since the light wont even lit when i plug it on, when i turn the power on, before the os boots but in ur case, its odd only xp works but not on vista.

i just bought an extra nic on pci... which was just less than 10 bucks to just stop scratching my head.

anyway, vista sucks SO hard, for anyone even thinking about getting one, be warned ur comp experience can degrade and i freaking let go of vista back to xp and im happy.

yea i am trying out my HTPC and wanted to give vista a shot... but i cant seem to get that working so i am now using the xp version that i have loaded... just wanted to see if tere was an easier way for me to fix it instead of reloading the whole darn OS....

next question for those of you out there... anyone know of any good software for HTPC for free... i am trying media portal and xlobby now... anyone got anything else?

believe or not... windows media center works good... though that was win MCE 2003 or 2005 or whatever, but it was good while i used it for a year or so. and vista actually has this MCE feature, so you could try that. buy a new pci ethernet for 10 bucks...

though vista stinks, u might be able to get some worth bit out of it by using that part...

media portal is bloated and buggy and not as good imo. dont know how it improved over the last year though. there's another one i vaguely remember which was quite impressive and was much better than media portal... only i forgot what it was...

and google found it 'tvedia' and really... just look around =p

tvedia dropped tv recording, so, its only for viewing stored media but pretty good for what it is.
