can't host HW2 with my routeri know this problem has probibly came up before, but i have no idea of how to fix it.
i am using a netgear router (wired for the moment) but when i try and host a HW2 game its showing 999 ping.
i know it something to do with ports, but what do i do to rectify it, coz its a right pain ATM.
cheers in advance.

If your using a router and playing HW2 then your pretty much screwed as far as hosting is concerned, thats been a problem since release.
You could always check out www.relicforums.com and see if they have any threads on the matter but I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you.

You can host with a router (I used to), you have to enable port forwarding though it not just about opening ports through a firewall.

seriously tho, its a
NETGEAR 54mbps wireless ASDL modem router, model DG834G v3
it has 4 lan connections on the back.
my isp is aol
my PC is a 3 year old toshiba satelite P10.
hope this helps folks
cheers in advanced.
at the moment i have went back to using my old modem and i can host no probs, but i have 3 PC's in the house, and with the kids growing up if i don't get the router working then my games will be few and far between

here is a howto someone else has made with lost of pretty pictures ( not claiming this will work as i personally haven't tested it )
Linkage
if that doesnt work .......
well i was planning on writing a bacon proof howto but since i read the manual i can only say i couldnt make it any easier .
manual in pdf
do a search ( top slightly left of the middle , looking glass ) on "port forwarding" and or "services"
follow the steps you find on page 64 and on . they give two examples so just do one of them to the letter except change the ports to the ones people mentionned here and you should be set .
one remark one forum told me to enable UPnP for it to work but i also come across people having troubles with it to work automaticly so i still would advise you setting port forwarding up manually ( again , this you will come across when you read the four topics about port forwarding )
since you have kids i think the manual is also usefull on telling you to block certain things for when they start surfing for pron or anorexia sites .
sorry i wasnt much more help but the manual is in pdf so i can't copy paste the writing and the pretty pictures so i think the pdf is your best bet if the other howto doesnt work ( just follow the screenshots and forget about all the bells and whistles untill you have a basic working setup )

bacon if you can get rid of aol.... you dont need it unless your running dial up because i know for a fact that aol does not have people coming to house to install highspeed internet.... typical companies around me are like the telephone and cables companies such as cox, comcast, and verizon..... aol slows down your computer like a bitch and is pointless to have if you do not need it.... if you need it then well... it has somewat of a purpose....
and tank i am gonna try stealing you how to for me to use for my router cause i have never been able to set the god dam thing up... then again i have a verizon router modem combo so i could be screwed from the start.....

there is no way to get rid of AOL once you install it (or so I've heard) unless you reformat it.
all in all, AOL is terrible.
|
[TFL]Temmu
|
yea..... because aol takes over your entire hard drive and enters every corner... it is tru the only way to get rid of it is to reformat.... unless you wanna spend 3 hours combing your registry to find it alll...

well to be honest guys, i have came up with my own ingenious solution.
step 1) disconected router and threw it in corner of room
step 2) told kids if they want to go online in their room then tough
step 3) pluged back into my normal modem box thing and got back online and pwoned with maddie last night
i've saved the manual (which i never got when AOL sent me the router) so when i have some spare time i will set it up so kids are happy.
right kind of off topic, but it was brought up, i've had this laptop for 3 and a bit yrs and it does need reformating, but alas, i dont have the recovery disc thing (it came preinstalled with XP)
so apart from buying a new XP disc is there any cheaper option for reformating? i think i remember reading that you can save your I336 folder to disc and boot from that?
any ideas? or am i basically gonna put my hand in my pocket?

i ve come across portables when even that didnt help . best is to go surf to your portable's manufactor and see if you can order a second copy of the restore disks .
by example my wife's portable wont even properly install with a fresh XP disk . it has special writer drivers it needs that s only on the restore dvd .
i know not all brands have that problem but better do some research even before you buy another copy .
